CIS Virtual Web Server Creating and Managing Policy

[Preface]

This CIS Virtual Web Server Creating and Managing Policy sets out the policy on the virtual web server service provided by the Center of Information Sciences (“CIS”) of Kyoto Institute of Technology (“KIT”) to registered CIS users, specifically rules on creating and managing virtual web servers.

[Virtual Web Server Service]

The Virtual Web Server Service is a service providing a virtual web server accessible by using the address registered as a Virtual Web Server by a Virtual Web Server Administrator.

[Virtual Web Server Administrator]

A Virtual Web Server Administrator is a registered CIS user who applies for the creation of a virtual web server.

[Creation of a Virtual Web Server]

A registered CIS user who wishes to create a virtual web server shall fill out the necessary information on the prescribed form and submit it to the CIS. The CIS will review the application form, including the purpose of use of the virtual web server, decide whether it will permit the creation of the virtual web server and notify the applicant of the decision.

[Virtual Web Server Address]

One virtual web server address per virtual web server will be allocated.

[Maximum Number of Virtual Web Servers]

The maximum number of virtual web servers per registered CIS user is 3.

[Responsibilities of the Virtual Web Server Administrator]

The Virtual Web Server Administrator shall assume the following responsibilities and duties:
(1) To assume any and all responsibilities concerning the administration and management of all virtual web servers created by the Virtual Web Server Administrator;
(2) To immediately notify the CIS of any unauthorized use of the virtual web servers and/or any breach of KIT’s security policy;
(3) To monitor the contents uploaded to the virtual web servers and take any corrective actions against inappropriate use;
(4) To immediately notify the CIS of a change of Virtual Web Server Administrator via the prescribed form;
(5) To notify the CIS of the abolishment of a virtual web server via the prescribed form; and
(6) To take any other actions necessary to appropriately operate the virtual web servers.

[Purposes of Use of Virtual Web Servers]

Virtual web servers provided by the CIS may be used only for the following purposes:
(1) To simultaneously deliver messages to KIT’s faculty members;
(2) To communicate between KIT’s faculty members;
(3) For the education of KIT’s students;
(4) For research activities of registered CIS users;
(5) To publicize academic information and promotional activities of educational centers and divisions; and
(6) For other purposes appropriate to the use of virtual web servers in the CIS’s opinion.

[Non-Permission of Virtual Web Servers]

The CIS will not permit the creation of a virtual web server if one or more of the following events occur or may occur. The CIS may stop providing the service after a virtual web server is created, if one or more of the following events have occurred or may occur:
(1) If the virtual web server is used for a commercial purpose;
(2) If the virtual web server is used for a purpose contrary to public morality;
(3) If the Virtual Web Server Administrator is unable to perform his/her duties as a Virtual Web Server Administrator;
(4) If the Virtual Web Server Administrator pretends to be someone else in using this service;
(5) If use of the virtual web server violates a law;
(6) If use of the virtual web server causes damage or disadvantage to a third party; and
(7) If the CIS decides that use of the virtual web server is inappropriate for any other reason.

[Modification of the Policy]

The CIS may, at its discretion, modify or amend this policy from time to time without the permission of registered CIS users, provided that such modification to the policy shall be published on the CIS’s website. This policy, as modified or amended, shall be prospectively effective and applied to the CIS and all registered CIS users from the moment it is published online.
